The following is a raw, vegan recipe for my Green Zinger. Try to use organic produce if at all possible. Pears provide a good source of fiber, vitamin B2, C, E, copper, and potassium. They are an excellent source of pectin, which is a water soluble fiber.
Pears are actually higher in pectin than apples. This makes them effective in helping to lower cholesterol levels and in toning the intestines. They are often recommended as a hypoallergenic fruit that is high in fiber. They are less likely to produce an adverse response than other fruits. Pears are often recommended as a safe fruit to introduce to infants. You can blend this all up to make a smoothie, or juice part of it. I have included the how-to for both ways. A smoothie, will have more fiber, I'm just sayin'... 1 whole pear1/2 inch ginger (or to taste) big handful fresh blueberries 3 stalks celery juice of 1/2 lemon big handful romaine lettuce Wash, clean, core and chop largely your fruits and veggies. If you are juicing, this would be when you would run the ginger, whole half a lemon, celery & lettuce through the juicer. Pour your juice into the blender, add the rest of the ingredients and blend it all until smooth. If you are blending it all into a smoothie, you would first add in the romaine, celery & one cup of filtered water and blend until liquified. Grate the ginger into the blender with a microplaner or grater. Juice in the lemon with a citrus reamer. Then add in the pear & blueberries and blend until smooth. Pour into a lovely glass and enjoy! |
